Meet the ReachLocal Star 2012: Ken Leicester

This year marks the second annual ReachLocal Star Award, and the field of nominated employees was truly exceptional. But one stood out above the rest, and today we are proud to announce the winner of the 2012 ReachLocal Star Award: Ken Leicester.

The Star Award was established in 2011 to commemorate and recognize the outstanding commitment, passion, and hard work that our employees consistently demonstrate here at ReachLocal. The ReachLocal Star Award is based on three principles: Team First, Servant Leadership, and Customer Focus, and is awarded to the single employee from across the globe that embodies these three criteria in everything they do. The winner receives a crystal award, a cash prize, and a donation to their chosen charity.   

Ken has been with ReachLocal since 2007 and is currently the Director of Learning and Performance Systems in our Melbourne, Australia office. As such, Ken manages a team that designs and delivers product, sales, and technical training to all of Australia and New Zealand. Prior to this role, Ken served as a Sales Performance Manager in the Sydney office. Ken selected Australian charity Greenfleet, which will plant enough trees to offset the ReachLocal Australia carbon footprint for 12 months.

Here’s what Ken had to say about his experience working at ReachLocal, and his reaction to being named the ReachLocal Star of 2012. 

Q: What is your favorite thing about working at ReachLocal?

A: Being surrounded by talent. Whichever way you tip the pyramid the talent to rich and deep, top down or bottom up. Whatever way you look it’s simply a great place to be.

Q: What is something you are most proud of in your career at ReachLocal?

Standing in front of an Internet Marketing Consultant at Boot Camp, confidently knowing the career choice the attendees have made will change their lives. If we all do our job well when bringing new staff into this company, you can confidently believe their lives will be richer in many ways. I’m proud to be the one who presents the company first. 

Q: What motivates you to work hard and do a good job?

Motivation is from within, however the process is. I map out the year’s work for me and the team, then cut it into 48 weeks (allowing for holidays). It’s easier to manage small pieces than one big block of work. Everything is done with a plan. If you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail.
