In our latest 5 in 15 Webinar: 5 Ways to Boost Your Website’s Local SEO, ReachLocal Senior SEO Manager Rob Frost-Dean went over some actionable tips for helping your site appear in local search results for your products and services. Here are a few of the top questions he answered regarding SEO and your website.
How Can You Tell if Your Content is Clear?
Content is king, Frost-Dean says, so you should make sure your site’s content is clear and accurate. But, how do you do that? If you can easily read through the content on your site and can define the topic of that page, it is likely clear to search engines. Because search engines are much better at broad keyword match than they used to be, you can focus on writing your content for people rather than search engines, and focus each page on your website around a specific topic like a product or service you offer. If you’re writing about that topic, you will likely include some of your keywords but in a way that’s much more natural and easy to read. How Do I Get My Business to Show Up on Page One of Search Engines?
There are a lot of factors that go into ranking organically, like:
- Is your site mobile friendly?
- Do you have reviews?
- How consistent is your information across the web?
Search engines look at all this information, in addition to the content on your site, when determining page rank. Because organic performance takes a little longer than other forms of digital marketing, you can partner your SEO strategy with your paid strategy to help boost your efforts with certain keywords and topics while you’re working on strengthening your site with relevant content and signals to search engines about your products and services.
How Important is Consistency?
Picture this: You’re sending invitations for a party. You notice, after mailing your invites, that half of them had the wrong address. When it comes time for the party, your attendance will be diluted. This is the same idea when you have incorrect or inconsistent information cross the web. Putting inconsistent information out there is going to hurt you. So, consistency is extremely important when it comes to local SEO. You want to make sure your name, address, and phone number, or NAP, is consistent across the web to help drive the most traffic to your business website.
What Should I Look for in an SEO Company?
Transparency is key. You should look for a company that provides clear reporting and goes through that information with you on a regular basis. Because SEO takes time, it’s also important to know what work your SEO company is performing to help you reach your goals.
