SXSW Interactive 2011: Quick Recap

SXSW Interactive 2011

This year, the Interactive portion of the multimedia South by Southwest (or SXSW) conference in Austin, TX brought in record-breaking attendance numbers, some of the best brains in the industry, and great takeaways for the rest of us who couldn’t make the trip.

As the conference has skyrocketed in popularity over the years, the swelling attendance numbers have become a topic of their own, with Billboard noting that “SXSWi has changed, and people longing for a smaller, more intimate tech conference will have to deal with it.” With so many people and workshops planned, the space available in downtown Austin becomes a premium and some top quality speakers end up getting moved to more obscure spaces and timeslots.

But our very own Tiffany Monhollon did a great job collecting some of the best quotes and tweets from SXSW over at the ReachCast blog. And the best part? You don’t have to be the CMO of a big brand to appreciate and implement these nuggets of wisdom. Local business owners everywhere can beef up online marketing efforts by understanding:

“You will love brands when they love you first.” – Gary Vaynerchuk, Author

@justinlevy: Businesses that consistently demonstrate trust will create more shared value.

@kkinnison: “It’s gonna get beat up for a while, but social media isn’t a fad. It can’t be. It’s human.” – @garyvee

@hollyhoffman: “Own your Google Places, own your Yelp. Own the channel before you move on.” – @DarthBacklink
