This is the last post in our Reviews FAQs series where we answer frequently asked questions about online reputation management.
Yelp is great for a number of reasons. It’s highly-visited, focuses on local businesses, and allows businesses to manage their information and respond to reviews for free. So, how do you use Yelp?
Claim or Create Your Business Page
In order to start the management process, go to www.biz.yelp.com, and enter your business name and address, then click search. If your business appears in the search results, click the red “Claim this business” button. You’ll then be prompted to create a business account with Yelp. It will prompt you to enter your email address, name, and phone number. Once your account is created, Yelp will likely ask to call your business to verify that you are the owner. Yelp will give you a code to enter once they call – simply enter that code, and voila! Your page is claimed.
If your business did not appear in the search results when you first searched for it, you’ll need to create a page. Scroll down to the bottom of the search results page and click “Add your business to Yelp.” Follow the prompts to enter your business information. Yelp may call your business, so you’ll enter the code provided in order to verify your page.
Add Business Information & Photos
Once your page is claimed and verified, you can optimize your page with relevant information and photos. You can add information like:
- Your business categories
- Hours of operation
- Your business specialties
- Your business history
- Information about the owner or manager
- Businesses you recommend for your customers
Then you can upload images like your storefront, inside your store, your logo, and your products. This gives prospects a good idea about your business and builds out your page.
Monitor & Respond to Reviews
Now that your page is claimed and updated with relevant information and photos, you can start responding to reviews. Regularly monitor your page for new reviews, and follow our guidelines for responding to negative reviews and for responding to positive reviews.
